This is a remote, rarely visited tarn that lies in the western fells above Wasdale. At almost 2,000 above sea level it will be well into June before the fishing gets going but by then the small, beautifully marked trout that inhabit this water should be keen and willing. It will have been at least nine months since they saw the last angler – possibly much longer. On my last visit I had great success with a small dirty orange hopper fished dry on the edge of the ripple – but make your own choice on the day.
The route to the tarn follows Nether Beck for the entire route. It takes a good while and you should allow plenty of time for the return journey.
NB. The high tarns of Lakeland are wonderful places to visit and a privilege to fish. Their trout populations are unique and vulnerable. Nearly all of those you catch will be small fish – please treat them kindly and put them back.
