Mirehouse Fishery

Cumbria has relatively few ‘urban’ fisheries but Mirehouse stands out as a fine example of what can be achieved through community effort and sheer hard work. A relic of west Cumbria’s mining past, Mirehouse has had both a chequered history and a recent renaissance to become not only an interesting and varied fishery but also a valuable local asset.

This is a sizeable water on the southern outskirts of Whitehaven the site has been thoughtfully laid out with good pathways, well constructed pegs and ample parking. Mirehouse offers good fishing for Carp, Tench, Bream, Roach and other species. Carp in particular grow to a good size on this fishery and overnight fishing is available to members.

Mirehouse is managed by Haig Angling Club who run an active programme of matches and work hard to encourage youngsters into the sport.
