Nethertown can be a good mark for winter cod but also produces flounders, whiting , dogfish and bass. The mark is a few miles to the south of St Bees and has easy access to the shore and good parking. The ground is rough in patches with areas of clean sand.

One drawback of fishing here is that the area is heavily netted from December to May – something that must inevitably impact upon stocks.
