Parton

The shoreline between Workington and Whitehaven offers the best cod fishing in the area. Harrington is the northerly end while Parton, just outside Whitehaven gives access to the marks at the south end. This can be rough ground in places with more substantial rock outcrops and you can expect to lose some tackle.

Not really rated as a summer venue most of the activity here is from October through to February. Cod turn up from October onwards with the better fish putting in an appearance from November through to Christmas.  Peeler crab is the main cod bait through October, but in November the fish switch to lug baits tipped with squid, mussel or razorfish.  It fishes best the two hours either side of low on the bigger spring tides at night. Ideal conditions are a steady wind from the southwest or west.
