Arnside & Sandside

Arnside is a small village on the southern shore of the Kent estuary with marvellous views north to the lakeland fells. There are several easily accessible marks at intervals from the railway viaduct, along the promenade and then around the headland into New Barns bay, all of which are in easy walking distance from your vehicle.

Sandside is a couple of miles inland and even more accessible with fishing possible from your car on larger tides.

Flounder are the main species here although mullet can be around in good numbers from May to September along with a few bass.

Take care – the estuary here is noted for its tidal bore and fast running tides either side of high water. Warning sirens are given in advance and should not go unheeded. Areas of quicksand are also found, often close to the shore.
